Keeping You Updated

Many of Mom's Friends and Family are wanting to know about her condition. We have set up this blog to make that possible. Please feel free to post messages to Vickey here and we (Todd and Troy) will try to keep you posted on how she is doing.

I will do a quick fill in of the past month for anyone that is not familiar with Mom's situation. Mom had her gall bladder removed about a month ago. Following the removal of her gall bladder Mom developed a blood clot in one of her legs. She was released from the hospital on blood thinner and sent home to allow the clot to dissolve over the next three to four weeks. After two weeks Mom began having trouble eating and became very weak. During a visit to the doctor Mom mentioned that she had a hard spot below her rib cage. After examining Mom the doctor admitted her to the hospital yesterday to hydrate her and to get a CAT scan of the spot below her ribs. The report from the CAT scan was not positive. The doctor said that the wall of mom's stomach had thickened and that he believed that she had lymphoma in the abdominal area.

Last night they began getting the blood thinner out of Mom's system in preparation for a biopsy from here stomach. They were hoping to do the biopsy today but because of low blood volume and her blood being to thin they were not able to take the biopsy. They did take her this morning and have filter put in the vessel that would filter out any clot that broke off from her leg, preventing the clot from going to her lungs or heart. The procedure went very well.

This afternoon they have been giving Mom blood and plasma to get her ready for the biopsy in the morning. They have her scheduled for the biopsy at 8:30 in the morning. The doctor said that they will be looking for cancer in the lymph nods and for gastric cancer. They will send the biopsy off to the lab and they should have some results as to what type of lymphoma or cancer we are dealing with. We should have some news from the lab on Monday or Tuesday.

We are certain mom will be in the hospital until Monday or Tuesday and we will know more at that time.

The good news is that the cancer is treatable with chemotherapy.

Mom is handling all of this with great peace and faith that only an intimate walk with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gives.

Thank you all for your prayers.
